Know Your Injectable: What’s The Best Injectable for You?

Cosmetic injectables do more than just smoothing out wrinkles and lines. In certain cases, they can also provide you with your desired aesthetic outcome – without the pain, cost, and lengthy downtime of cosmetic or plastic surgery procedures.Best of all, with just about every medical spa offering a standard range of cosmetic injectables, you don’t have to go far for touch-ups.

But first things first, let’s talk about the ones we have available at our med spa- and which ones can best deliver the results you want.

Choosing the Right Cosmetic Injectables for You

Any med spa worth its salt would offer at least one type of neurotoxin and filler. Botox is perhaps the most famous injectable out there, with fillers being a close second, but did you know that they each serve a different purpose?

Neurotoxins

Also known as Botulinum Toxin – Type A, these injectables relax the facial muscles to smooth dynamic lines or wrinkles that appear when people smile, frown, or lift their eyebrows – while still allowing you to move your face.

The treatment time is pretty quick, with the injection over in minutes and akin to a bug bite. There’s no down time but the skin usually smoothes out over the following week, with the results lasting up to 3 months on average.

Botox

Botox is the most popular brand of neurotoxin and is thus available at just about any medical spa. It’s often injected into frown lines, forehead lines, and crow’s feet. It can also lift drooping eyebrows and even help correct a gummy smile or give the upper lip a subtle boost (i.e., a lip flip).

Dysport

This is another neurotoxin variant and like Botox, it can help reduce dynamic lines and wrinkles while preventing new ones from forming.

It’s especially effective for treating glabellar or “11” lines, which form between the eyebrows over time and is best performed by a licensed injector at a medical spa.

Xeomin

Xeomin is a less expensive alternative to Botox and is also ideal for patients who are prone to developing botulinum toxin injection syndrome as it has less side effects.

Like Botox and Dysport, it can smooth wrinkles and fine lines and prevent new ones from forming – while still providing a natural look.

Dermal Fillers

While neurotoxins address dynamic wrinkles, dermal fillers are for those static wrinkles that appear while the face is at rest (e.g., nasolabial folds, marionette lines around the mouth, etc.) or for restoring lost volume in areas like the cheeks, lips, and under eye hollows.

A bit of filler can also add volume to enhance the nose bridge and jaw line or to create a full, sexy, yet natural-looking pout.

Kybella

If you’ve ever struggled with a double chin that wouldn’t budge no matter how much weight you lose from diets and exercise, Kybella should be up your alley.

This injectable kills the excess fat cells under the chin and can help create a smoother, firmer, and more youthful-looking contour around the jawline. Some patients might require more than one injection to get their desired results, but it’s still an easier and more affordable alternative to chin liposuction.

Whichever injectable you choose, the right injector can make all the difference in achieving a beautiful yet natural look.
